If Your Party Wins, Please Don’t Honk Your Horn

Be Humble And Circumspect Instead

For you whose party won, whichever party that is: please be wise and be a little slow to celebrate, and don’t celebrate too loudly, too proudly, too provokingly. Please be a little mindful.

This is not a regular moment; we haven’t had a regular moment for several years, and we are all stressed out and wore out. There are a lot of hurt feelings; there is a lot of disappointment and fear; therefore, don’t forget to be prudent, please be careful of all your fellow citizens. They deserve it. We all deserve it from one another.

You know, the people who “rub it in”? Don’t be one of those.

When you celebrate, please remember what was written thousands of years ago about this very thing:

“… victory must be observed like a funeral” — Lao Tzu

What Lao Tzu was saying was that when there is victory for some there always is defeat for others, and to be too celebratory, especially in military situations, (and why not political), is not just inconsiderate, but immature and unwise.

This moment is an invitation for us all to show some growth for all the trails and tribulations we have gone through together. None of us has done it stelarly, and some of us have done worse than others; but one thing is true, we have all had it rougher than usual, and we all need each other’s kindness. This is not a trivial matter; I am begging you to be more mindful than ever before in this moment of transition. We are responsible for more than we know in the world family, and it all starts with you and me.

That’s it.

Just please don’t go around honking your horn and being obnoxious; instead, take this opportunity to grow. (How wonderful that would be). We would shine more by being humble than by being obnoxious.

Can we start now to repair some of the many fractures we have endured this year 2020? I hope so.
